First Holy Communion families: Cake Sale last Sunday
A message from Katie, who spoke at masses last weekend…
“Hi everyone, on behalf of myself and the First Holy Communion candidates, I’d like to say thank you for supporting our cake sale where we raised an amazing £210. It was great to have so many people buying cakes and making donations.
When I was talking about my family history, I originally wanted to talk more about my Mum, but she was a bit uncomfortable with it, so I didn’t. Afterwards though, we came to the conclusion that if this story helped one person, then it would be worth telling. My nan had bowel cancer at 49 as did her brother at 60. Because of this my mum was aware that she could get early screening, but it wasn’t automatic, she had to go to the GP and chase the hospital about it.
I thank God every day that she did.
She had no symptoms, but following the procedure it was discovered that she had bowel cancer. Thankfully it was in very early stages, removed there and then, and she was never unwell. So please, if you have any family history, or if other screenings are available to you, go and see your doctor, because if my Mum didn’t, things could be very different now.”
Thank you to all who contributed and thanks to all who baked the lovely cakes!
