The Anointing of the Sick "is not only for those who are at the point of death. As soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived.

The Anointing of the Sick "is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived (cc 1514)

Our faith teaches us that when we are very ill, then to have a special blessing administered to us by the Parish Priest, confers on us a supernatural grace. One which either helps us in this life, or in the eternal life to come. A beautiful mystery and treasure for God's children.
