Fr. Graham Writes 23rd October 2022
“Prayer is not just words. It is also gesture, posture, desire, silence, yearning, struggle. We know that true prayer comes from the heart and is not just repetitive words.
A humble prayer "pierces the clouds".
In other words, it goes straight to God, heart to heart. There is no pretence, self -seeking or need to prove oneself to God or others. God's sight pierces the soul.
Saint Bernadette, along with all the great saints, did not see herself as special. She even ridiculed those who thought of her as a saint, she asked for their prayers for her as she would need them in purgatory. But she is a saint, she is in heaven.
Humility unlocks many barriers to holiness. The gospel tax collector stands far away for fear as he knows and acknowledges his sins. He beats his breast, as we do in the Confiteor at the beginning of Mass. "My fault, my fault......" We may stand but we are spiritually prostrate as we approach God. But in Jesus we are brought close, even to the throne of God, and made right with God. With Jesus we can raise our eyes to heaven, our true home and hope. With my prayer for you all every day.
God bless you. Fr Graham.”

"I would like to know the defects of the saints and what they did to correct these defects.
That would help me much more than hearing about their miracles and ecstasies”.
Bernadette Soubirous
