Fr. Graham Writes: 5th March 2023
Jesus takes three apostles (Peter, James and John) up a high mountain to see the reality of who He is, the Son of God, fully human and fully divine in all His glory.
In 1917 three shepherd children (Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco) experience the beauty of Mary, Our Lady of the Rosary, and hear the messages that God permitted her to give to them and the whole human race. They are taken to heaven and hell and they witness, along with over 70,000 people, the "miracle of the sun". The message of Fatima is a window into heaven and a warning - encapsulating the whole Gospel. It can be interpreted as a "blessing" or a "curse "as was Abram.
The call to live the commandments of God echoes still and the urgency never greater. As disciples of Jesus and children of Mary we are asked to bear "hardships for the sake of the Good News". As we experience the visit of Our Lady of Fatima and the shepherd children this weekend may we "go up the mountain" with Jesus and Mary to see, for ourselves the truth of the Gospel and the things of heaven. Whatever Jesus and Mary show us may we hear His words, "Stand up, do not be afraid" as we see, for the sake of the world, Jesus more clearly.
With my daily prayer for a holy Lent.
God bless you all.
Fr Graham
