Fr. Graham Writes: 21st January 2024
When is it the right time to believe in Jesus and follow Him? We might want it to be "tomorrow" but not today. We are very good at finding reasons to delay: too busy, too tired, too sophisticated. But when the word of the Lord is addressed to us and we hear it, we should respond straight away and get "Up" like Jonah, despite our reservations, weakness or fear. Saint Paul reminds us that "time is growing short". There may not always be tomorrow.
There was even a right time for Jesus to begin to proclaim "the Good News from God", after his life in Nazareth and His baptism. The particular moment was when John the Baptist was arrested. John had prepared the way and now "The Way" takes his place. It was God's moment and time for the Gospel to be proclaimed by Jesus, the Word made flesh. Jesus immediately invites some to be His disciples and apostles. They see and hear Jesus and follow Him. How different it would have been for them if they had delayed their response or hesitated. How different their lives would have turned out and the growth of the Church impeded.
In Jesus their lives were changed for the better. Our lives will only be better and more authentic if we listen and respond to Jesus speaking to us today. He doesn't want us to live an ordinary life, He wants us to live an extraordinary life, His life in us. Now is the right time.
May God bless you all and with my prayer for you always,
Fr Graham
