Fr. Graham Writes: 7th May 2023
Last year I attended a Catholic conference where there were some inspirational speakers. I heard some almost outrageous claims in two talks. One was that previously a sick man was healed merely by the passing shadow of a catholic with healing gifts. Another was even the claim of a priest in his ministry raising more than one person from the dead. At first, I dismissed them as not necessary to believe. But today, I am challenged as I pray with God's Word. Jesus says, "Whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself, he will perform even greater works, because I am going to the Father." That is clear. Jesus ascends to the Father so that we might receive the Holy Spirit. As Jesus goes to prepare a place for us, He does not leave us, in fact He is with us always, everywhere present until the end of time and in the Blessed Sacrament. It is this same Holy Spirit that we receive to make us "living stones" in the Church and enables the sacraments to be not just words but grace and power. The church is the living breathing body of Christ and not a dead institution and we believe in Him. In the Acts of the Apostles the Church was increasing in numbers, now, in Europe, the Church seems to be decreasing. If we are to face this challenge, we likewise need to be "full of faith and the Holy Spirit" that God's Kingdom will reign on earth.
With my prayer for you this Coronation weekend and every day.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
