Fr. Graham Writes: 4th June 2023
The Confirmation Mass with Bishop Richard at Arundel Cathedral last Sunday was a joyful and beautiful celebration for our twelve candidates and the whole deanery. Bishop Richard asked the candidates
"What will you do for God today?"
It is a question not to be asked once but every day and it demands an answer. Perhaps we might ask why we should do anything for God. Jesus answers Nicodemus' question by saying, "God so loved the world that He gave his only Son". Here is the answer. God the Father gives us His only begotten Son made flesh to take our place in judgement for our sins and furthermore sends the Holy Spirit to fill us and make us one with Him, to live with Him. We do not deserve this. It is pure gift because God loves us and does not want to be separated from us. He wants us to live with Him forever in heaven. He has given us everything we need, not just tablets of stone to follow rules but the person of Jesus to follow and receive in the sacraments. Now ask yourself the question, "Why should I do anything for God?" and understand. So, with joy and thanksgiving we answer Bishop Richard, today and every day: what shall I do for God today? Be generous, for He is more generous. With my pray for you all every day.
God bless you
Fr Graham
