Fr. Graham Writes: 3rd September 2023
Sometimes we try to run away from God or ignore Him. As if living our life without Him was better or even possible.
Jeremiah (1st reading) tried to forget about God because being faithful to God was proving difficult or uncomfortable. It brought nothing but trouble for him as people didn't want to hear Gods message through him. But he couldn't stop or help himself as there seemed a "fire burning within (his) heart".
Try as we might, we find ourselves in the same situation. The solution? To "think of God's mercy" (Romans) and to "deepen our sense of reverence" (collect). If we contemplate God's mercy (by looking at a crucifix), we see the cost of real love in Jesus' body. It cost Him everything. His love is poured into our hearts from His wounds by the Holy Spirit. We experience this most fully in Mass. We are reverent in God's presence because He is filling us with His mercy and love. Reflect on Him and love Him. Let us not think we know better than God. Let us not say "Heaven preserve you Lord" from working in my life. 'Your way, not my way, Lord. Your way, not Satan's way, Lord.'
With my prayer for you every day.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
