Fr. Graham Writes 29th May 2022
“We are in the midst of praying a novena for the Holy Spirit. Between the Ascension of the Lord to Pentecost we join the apostles in waiting for the "power from on high". Why do we pray for the Holy Spirit when we have already received the Holy Spirit in Baptism and Confirmation? We are already temples of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit lives in us. Do we give free reign to the Holy Spirit in our lives? We try to keep control, but for Jesus to reign in our life, we need to give the Holy Spirit unconditional consent to do whatever He wants with us. So, we seek a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit every day. St Stephen was "filled with the Holy Spirit" and he saw the glory of God and "heaven thrown open". We need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings order out of chaos, makes the sacraments divine encounters with Jesus, leads us into Truth and Unity and is everywhere present. Without the Spirit the Church is merely a human organisation, priests are flawed ceremonialists and the baptised are without hope. Don't ask why we should pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit; tell me why not. With the whole Church we say, Come Holy Spirit! With my prayers for you all in this novena. God bless you always. Fr Graham”
