Fr. Graham Writes: 29th January 2023
"The human race has nothing to boast about to God". These words of St Paul continue to reverberate today. Perhaps we are trying to prove something to God by our intellect, wisdom and ability to create and even discover or re-write new laws of nature.
But, who is it who created out of nothing, is the source of all wisdom and designs the laws of nature in the first place?
Our boasting can be used to separate us from God, even seek to surpass Him, rather than bringing us in closer union with Him. This must be the meaning and purpose of the search for truth and meaning, to discover God, not to replace Him. There is a freedom and peace that comes from not only arriving but also journeying on this search for Truth. We call this "blessedness" or "happiness". Jesus is and lives this blessedness because He is the Truth and, as the Son, He shows us the Father. The way to blessedness is not boasting or pride but humility, purity, mercy and gentleness. Almost the opposite of what we are told are the "world's values" but secretly desired by us all. If you want to see them rather than just read about them. Look at Jesus.
With my prayer for you every day.
God bless you,
Fr Graham
