Fr. Graham Writes 25th September 2022
This week we have a clergy in-service training conference. The theme is evangelisation. This might be a daunting word, but it really means "sharing the good news" of Jesus. You might be thinking that this is the task of clergy and religious - professional Christians! But this would be wrong.
The task is for all those who are baptised.
The conference will be about how to foster sharing the good news of Jesus in our parishes, schools and families. The task could not be more urgent. Each day that passes is a day closer to Jesus' return.
In today's Gospel, Dives (the rich man) never expected to be in Hades after he suddenly died. He assumed that he would be with Abraham and Lazarus would be in Hades. The present world situation and recent events show that we cannot rely on tomorrow and the future is uncertain. We can only rely on God. Sharing the good news about Jesus with someone might actually save a soul if they turn to Christ before it is too late.
Our effectiveness is limited by our own conversion and so we all need to renew our personal belief in the resurrection of Christ as told by the prophets and the evangelists of the Bible and our own time. Let us listen to them!
With my prayer for you all always,
God bless you,
Fr Graham.
