Fr. Graham Writes: 24th March 2024
Some people just watch the final of a sporting event and do so from the comfort of their sofa or the screen of their streaming device. But to really appreciate the meaning, the development, the skill or the blood, sweat and tears involved the spectator needs to watch everything, get to know the team and experience everything from the touchline. To really understand: start to play the game and join in yourself.
If this is true of sport, how much more our Christian faith!
This week is Holy week. It is time to get closer to the action and join in. It is the most important and moving week in the Christian calendar. Just to come to Mass on Easter Day would be like missing courses in a meal.
Palm Sunday sets the tone. We cheer for Jesus and then drop Him! Maundy Thursday we receive the gift of the commandment to love, the gift of the Priesthood and the Holy Mass. Good Friday shows the instrument of death as the altar of glory. The Easter Vigil on Saturday night is filled with the anticipation of Christ's victory over sin and death. God cannot be restrained by death. Christ is life. We receive that new life in Christ and we rejoice that Jesus is adding to His body everyday.
There is lots to witness but more to experience. Come to the sacred liturgies this Triduum and you will be changed.
With my prayer for you ALL in this Holy Week.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
