Fr. Graham Writes: 22nd September 2024
It seems incredible that so soon after having private tuition from Jesus and spending time with Him, the disciples started jostling for position to see who was the greatest. This straight after Jesus described how He humbled Himself and predicted His own death and resurrection. Jesus must have been exasperated. Why are we so slow to understand? Why is the Church still arguing to this day?
As Catholics we have a greater responsibility to be humble. The whole revelation of Christ has been revealed to the Church. Jesus teaches and demonstrates what He teaches by the example of a child. God becomes a child to bring down the proud.
Our role as English Catholics is even more unique. As "Mary's Dowry" we are called to go into "the house" not at Capernaum (as in the Gospel), but of the Annunciation where Mary is greeted by the Archangel and the moment the Word becomes flesh. As human life is threatened at every stage and the Church seems unable to respond with One voice, let us seek to be like Mary as we spend intimate time with Jesus and respond like her, "Let it be done to me according to your Word".
May God bless you. With my prayer for your intentions.
Fr Graham
