Fr. Graham Writes: 22nd December 2024
I hope Advent has been a blessed time for you. Advent is to Christmas what Lent is to Easter.
In some ways this Advent has also been a preparation for the Jubilee Year of 2025. This year of celebration, pilgrimage and freedom from debts is meaningful to us Christians. We have been set free from slavery to sin and from death. The death and resurrection of Jesus, is how God rescues us and brings us back to Him.
None of this is possible without Jesus. He really is God and a man in one person, God in the flesh. Without a body and a soul, Jesus could not die and therefore rise from the dead. We do not follow rules, a book or even a guru. We follow Jesus and He gives us His body (the Church), and His strength (the sacraments).
None of this is possible without Jesus having a physical body and soul. He has this body and soul from the moment Mary says 'Yes' and she conceives Him by the Holy Spirit. This is why we hold Mary so highly (not God) because she was humble, full of grace and gave birth to the Son of God.
Like a true disciple of Jesus, who is yet to be born, Mary takes her Saviour on a mission to Ellizabeth and her unborn son, John the Baptist. Wherever Jesus and Mary go, there will be the Holy Spirit and praise, Magnificat!
Whatever sort of Advent or year you have had, I pray that Jesus and Mary will come to you and that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit and praise. Know that you have been loved by God from the beginning and He has sent His Son into the world to save you. Magnificat!
With my prayer and hope for a blessed and happy Christmas.
God bless you.
