Fr. Graham Writes: 20th August 2023
People with faith are drawn to Jesus. Jesus is drawn to people who even have "mustard seed size" faith. The Canaanite woman whose daughter was possessed would not take no for an answer. Even though she was a "foreigner" she persisted in pursuing Jesus. He seems almost rude to her. But Jesus recognised that she truly believed in Him and was willing to take risks to follow Him.
What an example for us.
But faith is not just personal (my faith, my belief). It is always a gift from God and it is the "faith of the Church" (Rite of Baptism). Our faith is built upon the foundation stones of the apostles, the rock of Peter, all held together by Jesus, the cornerstone. My faith needs to conform to the fullness of Jesus, His body, head, soul, spirit and heart. We persevere in following Jesus, clinging to Him, not being separated from Him in prayer, confession, Mass and love. The faith of the Church holds us, catches us and helps us grow like a mother nurturing a child in her womb. May Jesus give us "great faith" and keep us firmly on the rock.
With my prayer for you every day.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
