Fr. Graham Writes: 1st December 2024
"At that time", said Jesus, there will be signs in heaven and distress on the earth. Jeremiah warned that the "days are coming". We live in the last days when we await the return of Jesus in glory. At that moment, it will be the end of time.
At this time, we begin the Church's new year with Advent and look not at the beginning, but the end. We all need to know where we are going, the meaning and purpose of life. Who we are and why we are here? The true answer can only be found in relation to God, who created all things "visible and invisible" and created time and ends it. Without God we will never find the answer.
While we wait and observe or suffer all that is prophesied in the scriptures, we seek to please God. As we receive the new lectionaries to be used to proclaim and hear the word of God at Mass, let us seek to listen more closely and prayerfully to God speaking to us in the scriptures. He is looking to find a home in us as His Word is planted in us. It is He, in Word and Sacrament, who makes us strong to endure all that is to take place and stand before Jesus, our Saviour.
With my prayer for you and your intentions for a blessed Advent.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
