Fr. Graham Writes: 19h February 2023
Last week many people celebrated St Valentine's day. This day has become a popular secular expression of love, an exchange of gifts and romance. The Church does not celebrate this feast widely. But there are plenty expressions and feasts of love throughout the year that we do celebrate. In fact, it can be said that every feast and saints' day is an expression of Love. Not our love for God but God's love for us and our response to Him. It is easy to see this at Christmas, Easter, Corpus Christi, the martyrs..... but maybe not so easy on Ash Wednesday or during Lent. Love, however, cannot be limited to warm feelings. The greatest act of love is expressed on Good Friday. We are called to imitate and be wrapped in this Divine Love that is stronger than death and not kept just for friends and those we like but to include our "neighbour" and even our "enemy". To be perfect as our heavenly Father is to overflow with love because we all "belong to Christ". Lent is a time to be trained in this love. To increase in love of Jesus even when it is uncomfortable.
With my prayer for a blessed Lent.
God bless you all.
Fr Graham
