Fr. Graham Writes: 15th October 2023
"The Lord will wipe away the tears from every cheek".
Words from the first reading from the prophet Isaiah.
We want God to be close enough to wipe our tears and the tears of all who weep and cry out to Him. He is not distant. He is close, very close. But the noise of war and memories of hurt make it difficult for us to hear Him calling for peace.
His voice speaks of an invitation to us; not just to a banquet but to a wedding feast. Who is getting married? We are. The Lord marries His people, the groom marries His bride, the Church.
The banquet is being prepared, the trumpets will sound, and our invitation needs a response. As the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem reminds us, we are invited to a house of "prayer for all peoples".
At every moment of every day we are being invited. God sends people to us, to call us back to Him, to change our lives to be more like Him. This changed life is the garment for the wedding feast. It is decorated with the jewels of virtue and made strong in the gift of faith in Christ. Wearing it always and keeping it clean is the task of the Christian. We wash in the sacraments and the fruit will always be peace.
With my prayer for you all.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
