Fr. Graham Writes: 14th July 2024
Last week we quietly celebrated two feasts special to our parish. Blessed Peter Vigne (the founder of the Community of the Blessed Sacrament Sisters) and Our Lady Queen of Peace (our Parish Patroness). We prayed for the Sisters and for our parish to be an instrument of peace. We have an obligation to pray for peace.
It is important that Governments and world leaders negotiate and seek peace. True peace will only be obtained when the Kingdom of God is in full reign. Otherwise it always seem to be teetering on a knife edge and armed forces become peace keeping forces.
There is a sense of urgency when Jesus instructs the twelve to go around local villages preaching the kingdom of God. He tells them to travel light and not to waste anytime if people do not accept His message. Nobody can be forced to believe or follow Jesus.
There is still an urgency about the invitation to believe and repent. Jesus gives authority to the Church to do this and equips us with everything necessary for the journey. Jesus gives us authority over unclean spirits and to heal in His name so that His peace may enter in and the stormy seas be calmed.
We may not be travelling from village to village but as a parish and a Church we must recapture the sense of urgency for people to be saved and rescued from sinking. Each person who prays, who receives Holy Communion, who repents, who kneels before the Blessed Sacrament is an instrument to bring in the peace of the Kingdom of God. Jesus invites you to engage in this work of salvation.
God bless every one of you and with my prayer for you all,
Fr Graham.
