Fr. Graham Writes: 13th August 2023
Creation is part of nature and is created by God. Humanity is the crown of God's creation, and we are called to be good stewards. But God doesn't create matter as an end in itself, for us to worship it or ourselves. The human person maybe the centre of creation but not the goal. God creates out of love and gives creation as a kind of sacramental to lead us or point to Him. Worship of God is our goal and purpose.
Elijah was not impressed or aware of God's presence in wind, earthquake or fire but in the "sound of a gentle breeze". It was a sign of the Spirit who is supernatural (above nature). Jesus is above nature as He is God made flesh. He shows His Divinity by walking on the rough sea, travelling from hilltop to the boat and calming the storm. He is ruler of the elements as He is its creator and law giver (natural law).
Jesus invites Peter to walk with Him. When he falters it is due to fear. Jesus is telling us that we can be raised above nature with Him by faith. What He is able to do by nature, we can by faith. He even speaks of moving mountains, healing the sick, raising the dead and doing greater works than Him.
We are created to be more than mere creatures but to share in the spirit world of heaven by faith.
With my prayer for you every day.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
