Deacon Simon Writes: 25th June 2023
In today’s Gospel reading Jesus says do not be afraid three times to the apostles.
Firstly ‘Do not be afraid. For everything that is now covered will be uncovered,’ meaning that in time, after the resurrection, all His teachings will become clear to us.
Secondly Jesus says: ‘Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul,’ meaning that we should not be afraid of other mortals, other people. Although there is still an element of anti-Catholic, anti-Christian feeling in British society, we have been given the grace, the patience, and the courage to, not just remain firm in our faith, but also speak about it to others as the opportunity arrives, inspired, and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
Thirdly Jesus says, ‘there is no need to be afraid; you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows.’ Meaning that God values us, and deeply cares for us, and therefore will protect us.
So, during the coming week let us try and speak to someone about our faith and during Mass let’s follow the advice of the psalmist and of Jerimiah and sing to the Lord and praise the Lord. Alleluia!
With my prayers for you and your intentions.
Blessings.
Deacon Simon
