Fr. Graham Writes: 9th February 2025
There is a beautiful quote from St Bernadette of Lourdes that says that since she saw the real Mary, no imitation would do. Such was her beauty and the glory of God that she reflected. We also know that we cannot see God face to face and live.
This must be something of the experience of both Isaiah and St Peter. One saw the Lord on His throne in heaven within the heavenly Temple and the "train of His robe filled the Temple" and the earth was filled with His glory. The other is full of fear because of a miraculous catch of fish after a fruitless night's work.
To realise that God is God and to experience this in person is a life changing moment. Isaiah is sent as a prophet of God and St Peter leaves everything to follow Christ.
To experience and see God is our hope and to be in His presence and praise Him is our home. We place many things in our life on a pedestal of importance and some even become gods to us. We begin to worship them and they dictate our every raison d'etre. In doing so they become idols, false gods. They are imitations. Once we see or experience the real God in Jesus Christ we do not want imitations anymore. If you don't believe me ask Saint Bernadette or Our Lady.
With my prayer for you every day, please pray for me.
God bless you
Fr Graham
