Fr. Graham Writes: 8th May
“"The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice". The type of "belonging" that Jesus is talking about is not about ownership or slavery. Jesus is describing what it means to be His disciple and follower. There is no force or coercion only an invitation to "know" Him. To know Jesus is more than knowledge or information, it is an intimate meeting and fusion of mind, body and spirit. To know Jesus means that He lives in us and we in Him. So to belong to Him is the fruit of this fusion or communion. We are not slaves but brothers and sisters of Jesus. At one and the same time He is our brother and our Saviour. Just as in the book of the Apocalypse, Jesus is both the Lamb on the throne and the Shepherd. It is our brother who has made us "worthy of eternal life" by His death and resurrection.
As we approach the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, we see how to be both brother and disciple of Jesus through Mary who was Mother and disciple. It is the "fruit of (her) womb" who saves the world and she follows! She shows us that humility is key to discipleship and belonging to Jesus for then we listen with an open heart and mind. This knowledge bears fruit and changes us. We need to be humble to allow our "brave" Good Shepherd to lead us.
With my prayers for you all especially in this novena.
God bless you always. Fr Graham”
