Fr. Graham Writes: 4th February 2024
Jesus is not a people pleaser. He doesn't give what people want, but what they need. This is just as true now as it was in the time of the Gospels. It would have been easy for Jesus to just return to Simon and Andrew's house and pick up where He left off. People (the whole town) were crowding around the house for Jesus to heal them. But He doesn't go back. "Let us go elsewhere" He says, so that others may get the chance to hear His message, the Gospel; "For that is why I came".
That is why He came. That is why Jesus instituted the Church, to spread the message, live the Gospel, so that others might be saved. St Paul understood this as he was prepared to do this "at any cost" to himself.
In our first reading Job describes the plight of many today when he describes being deluded, oppressed like a slave under the delusion of a pointless and hopeless life. This is why Jesus came and why we are here: to let others know of the freedom that life with Jesus gives. Life is not merely a breath but eternal. The death and resurrection of Jesus is the Gospel that everyone needs to hear because really "everyone is looking for (Him)". With my prayer for you every day.
God bless you
Fr Graham
