Fr. Graham Writes: 2nd March 2025
We are privileged to host a Day with Mary this Saturday, with the World Apostolate of Fatima bringing the National Pilgrim Statue and the relics of two seer saints to help us in our devotion and prayer. Of course, we are not doing this for ourselves. We are doing this because it is a First Saturday of the month and Mary asked us on 10 December 1925 (after the visions in Fatima) to keep these days. But also we do it because it relieves the pain in her heart that is inflicted by the offences and sins of the whole world. These sins have always caused the troubles in the world and continue to do so.
We still live in turbulent times: wars and rumours of wars, political upheaval, populations and countries devastated and financial and global crises. How are we to respond? What are we to pray for? This simple devotion of the First Saturdays is the response. No politician, celebrity, monarch, ruler, billionaire or plan has the answer. It really is the blind leading the blind. The solution is not of this world. The disciple does not know better than his teacher. Bad plans bear bad fruit.
As Lent approaches (details for Masses on Ash Wednesday are included in this newsletter), we can look at our own faults and prepare to make a good confession. We cannot do this by comparing ourselves with others but only by keeping our eye on the Master and spending time with Him. Doing what He wants and tells us to do will lead us to peace for us and the whole world. Mary helps us to do this. She keeps gently brushing our gaze back to Jesus whose heart always produces good treasure.
With my prayer for you all every day.
Fr Graham
