Fr. Graham Writes: 28th May 2023
If the Holy Spirit had not descended upon Mary and the apostles, the early Christian community was in danger of being a minority sect and probably dwindle from existence after the death of those who witnessed Christ's resurrection. What would have been the point of that? How would the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus have any impact outside this small group of followers in an occupied country at a particular time in history? The Holy Spirit shook the very foundations of time as it shook the building of the Upper Room on the first Pentecost. The Holy Spirit extends beyond the boundaries of time and geography as all nations hear the gospel in their own language at once. Jesus sends the Church then and of every age, including ours, to extend the kingdom of the gospel and the forgiveness of sins. We are sent in the power of the Holy Spirit, not with our own power or authority, but with Jesus', the Son of God. Under His influence we are changed and set free. But what would be the point of stopping with us and inhibiting the flame of faith from settling in the hearts of others? Why keep Him to ourselves? The Holy Spirit comes so that we all might have life and have it to the full. (John 6.63; 10.10).
With my pray for you all for a blessed last day of Easter.
God bless you
Fr Graham
