Fr. Graham Writes: 26th February 2023
It has been a year since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces. We do not need to look far for the effects of sin and neither do we have to look far to discover the cause. The beginnings of sin lie in putting ourselves in the place of God and wanting to replace Him. We think we know best; we don't need Him or trust Him.
This happens every day, individually and globally.
The very gifts that God has given us, intellect, reason and will become weapons to turn on Him. We were created by a divine thought of God, as the crown of His creation, to be in harmony with creation, with one another and in friendship with God. We are "living beings" not living things. What we seek to take by force is given to us as a gift of God. God gives us what we desire and more - a share in His Divine life through Jesus.
Jesus overcomes the temptations of the first fall in the garden by fighting and resisting the temptations in the desert and finally in another garden (of olives). Jesus undoes the damage of sin - the cause and effects - because grace is never outdone by evil. We pray for this grace for peace in Ukraine and for a visible, realised friendship with God and one another.
With my daily prayer for a blessed Lent.
God bless you all.
Fr Graham
