Fr. Graham Writes: 25th May 2025
You can sense the closeness of the young church to the Holy Spirit. The disciples were regularly prompted by the Spirit to speak, teach and heal. The Spirit guided them into ways of proclaiming the Truth of the Resurrection of Jesus to an everincreasing number of people from different cultures and traditions and even to those of other faiths. It seemed "good to the Holy Spirit" to share the faith of the risen Jesus with gentiles.
The apostolic Church continues to seek the promptings of the Holy Spirit. We saw this in the recent conclave. It was far from a political hustings and more of a retreat to hear the whisper of the desire of the Spirit.
Jesus promised this gift to the whole Church at Pentecost: "the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." We prepare for a renewal of this gift in the nine days after the Ascension (Thursday). We can listen to the advice of Cardinal Mercier (1851–1926) as we ask for the same intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit (see overleaf).
With my daily prayer for you all.
God bless you.
Fr Graham.
