Fr. Graham Writes: 23rd March 2025
How marvellous that our St Peter's school has received a glowing Catholic Schools Inspection Report. (see this newsletter). We congratulate them and thank God for everyone in our school community. The areas of inspection cover the Catholic life and mission, prayer life and the provision of religious education in the school. Broadly speaking this is prayer, formation and mission. I am relieved that parishes do not have the same inspections or criteria. We would not do as well!
This does not mean that we do not strive to be an "outstanding" parish in all areas. Our welcome, deep prayer, reverent Masses, opportunities to grow in faith and holiness and a generous openness to others in humility and service must be a regular practice. This is only possible if we keep Christ at the centre of all we do. As we look to celebrate the Annunciation of the Lord on Tuesday, it is the proclamation of Jesus, made flesh, present among us which is the Good News of salvation. Without this message we are lost. If we do not repent from other ways of life, we "perish". The Lord is patient with us. But He demands that we engage with this and bear fruit for His Kingdom. It will involve some preparatory work and painful pruning, but we have been given warnings galore and time is running out. His visitation and inspection will be unannounced.
May God bless you all every day of Lent.
Fr Graham
