Fr. Graham Writes: 23rd June 2024
Last weekend's Parish Mission was truly blessed. Thank you to all involved. It was so good to hear the message of Divine Mercy again, of the presence of the angels and the role of St Michael. People travelled many miles to be with us and they were overwhelmed by the welcome they received.
We can never be reminded too often of the purpose of our life and the goal of heaven, won by the death and resurrection of Jesus. God is our creator and He knows the hour of our death. Last Sunday was also a "Day for Life" and our Bishops ask us to reflect on and oppose the push for assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Job suffered greatly and asked God why he had been born and prayed to die. God answers Job from "the heart of the tempest" and reminds him who created all things and directs them. Suffering is painful and at times unbearable. The pain of a fellow human being can tear us apart. We would do anything to take it away or change it.
In the eye of the storm, Jesus was asleep. They woke Him and the wind and the sea obeyed Him: "Quiet now, be calm". The forces of nature and their fear subsided. Jesus asked them to have faith in Him. God is always with us, in the "boat" of our lives. We do not judge things (or others) by the perspective of this world but with the perspective of God and the "new creation". So we try to encourage others to believe and, at least hear, a different point of view - God's. That is why we need God's Mercy and the strength and protection of the Holy Angels. May we be guided and welcomed by them to heaven.
With my prayer for you all. Holy Angels protect you.
God bless you.
Fr Graham
