Fr. Graham Writes: 1st May 2022
“In the Invited II videos the presenter suggests that we write down our thoughts and reflections from the talks and discussions in a journal. This might seem a strange thing to do. But "journaling" is also a way of writing a spiritual diary. It can be quite personal, but it helps us to formulate what the Holy Spirit is doing within us. Each entry might be a just a few words long, but it gives an insight into our faith journey and our experiences in prayer. St Thérèse of Lisieux wrote about her prayer in her journal. Today's gospel reads like a diary entry, except it is another proof of the resurrection of Jesus. St John states what, why, where and how - "it happened like this". In this account the context is given, the disciples go fishing and fail to catch anything. They are despondent. But now Jesus appears at a distance, and they don't really recognise Him. Then they experience Jesus, close up, in a new and profound way - the catching of fish and breakfast. The resurrection of Jesus is seen to be physical and spiritual. Even though they want to ask, they know in a new way that it really is Jesus. Their faith has grown. In the writing of this journal the Holy Spirit can communicate this to us. Without it we would never know. It becomes a witness to the resurrection. Next time you pray, write about it afterwards. Next time you realise something about your faith, write it down. It will become another witness to the resurrection. It will remind you and as you share it the Holy Spirit will increase amongst us. With my prayers for you all every day.
God bless you always.
Fr Graham”.
