Fr. Graham Writes: 18th June 2023
Do you think Jesus feels sorry for us? He felt sorry for the crowds in today's Gospel because they were "like sheep without a shepherd". Because they were "harassed and dejected". They were without hope. The Jews were divided amongst themselves and an insignificant faith in an occupied homeland. They were afraid to cause a problem for the ruling Roman authorities and they had lost their way. They had compromised themselves and become like other nations, when they, of all nations, were to be God's own.
Sound familiar? We have been won by the blood of Christ and reconciled to God. We are seen to be no different to other religions and not listened to in the public domain. We are accused of being part of the problem rather than the solution. Yet we have the answer to all the problems, Jesus. So perhaps Jesus still feels sorry for us, and if so, He repeats the same message He gave to the first twelve: pray for more labourers to reap the harvest which He has sown when His cross was planted in the earth. He has given us authority to heal the sick and bring freedom from evil and all kinds of oppression in His name. The Truth sets us free. The Good Shepherd has laid down His life for us His sheep and calls us to live and work for Him.
With my pray for you and your intentions.
God bless you
Fr Graham
