Fr. Graham Writes: 18th February 2024
Temptation will always be with us. Being a Christian does not take temptation away (far from it). Temptations do not come from God. Jesus was tempted by Satan, but Jesus shows us how to resist temptation.
As we go into Lent we enter the wilderness with Jesus. Just like Him, we will experience temptation amongst the "wild beasts" and the angels will look after us too. We need to be aware of their presence and seek to trust in God. Whatever our rule for Lent, it's aim should be to reorientate us to face God. So that when we turn to Christ at Easter to renew our promises of baptism (the water that saves us), we will be renewed and closer to Christ.
This will be helped by training our passions and desires and not be dictated to by them. We can do this by making a good confession sometime this Lent. Let Jesus help you with the grace that comes from this sacrament to grow in holiness, repentance and self awareness. We will then be closer to the angels as we allow our intellect to direct our will and not our misplaced desires. Do not be afraid in the wilderness, He promises to be with us always.
With my prayer for you every day and for a fruitful Lent.
God bless you
Fr Graham
