Fr. Graham Writes: 16th March 2025
Jesus invites us with Peter, James and John to go up the mountain to pray. Indeed, when we pray, the Lord takes us by the hand and He takes us to pray Himself. The ascent might be full of distractions and trip hazards but when we get to the right height for us, we stop.
Stopping is important. Then we can focus our attention on His face and His body which, without us doing anything, is changed and transfigured.
By being in this place of prayer, Jesus shows us something of Himself, who He really is and the whole revelation of heaven. He is showing us something new, the New Covenant in His blood. That is what Jesus was talking about with Moses and Elijah, something they longed to see, Jesus crucified and risen. We are unable to hear their conversation or understand. The mystery of what God has done for us on the cross is truly awesome. We only begin to understand it when we receive it's grace. We might think we are half asleep and others might think us foolish, but it is us who are awake and others who are asleep. We might well be walking in a cloud that overshadows us but the cloud allows us to be with Jesus without seeing Him. It is in the cloud of faith that Jesus takes our hand again to lead us down the mountain with Him to live as He would want us by listening to His voice.
May God bless you all each day this Lent.
Fr Graham
