Fr. Graham Writes: 11th June 2023
The solemnity of Corpus Christi is not a fixed date but traditionally the Thursday (now transferred to the Sunday) after the celebration of the Most Holy Trinity (last Sunday). This in turn depends upon the date of Easter. So, today's feast is linked to Easter and the days leading up to it.
How can we forget that moment on Holy Thursday when Jesus gave His apostles His body and blood for the first time? The following day He offers the same body and blood to God the Father for us.
The two offerings are linked for ever. The Mass is therefore the never-ending offering of Jesus to the Father for us until He returns at the end of time. It is His body and blood. Jesus is truly present under the form of bread and wine in His body, blood, soul and divinity. In receiving Him we receive the "bread of angels", not to sustain us physically in this life but to sustain us spiritually through the desert until we receive heaven. More than this receiving Holy Communion is a "communion with (Jesus) in His body and blood". He lives in us and we live in Him because the "bread (He) gives is (His) flesh for the life of the world." With such a gift, we want to be at Mass every Sunday and more.
With my pray for you at every Mass.
God bless you.
Fr Graham.
